  • An update from Frankie Mumba, head of Luyando Community School in Zambia

    Posted September 17th, 2015, 6:05 am

    Dear Sponsor,

Thank you so much for your support in making a difference to the lives of children and their families here in Zambia. I thought you may like an update about our school.

We now (September 2015) have 7 classes catering for 8 grades. Children start at nursery andy learn through to grade seven. Our nursery has 83 children and the number of children in the other classes are: Grade 1 = 52; Grade 2 = 37; Grade 3 = 55; Grade 4 = 34; Grade 5 = 41; Grade 6 = 35; and Grade 7 = 44.

So we have a total number of 381 lovely children in the school. Of these, 165 (44%) are boys and 215 (56%) are girls.

On our staff there are 9 men and 5 women, with one lady currently on maternity leave. She will return next term and we have a lady helping out in the Nursery class until then.

Our curriculum uses both English and the local language. We have some very good educational materials and currently need more teaching and learning materials in English. The government provides no funding for the school. It comes from Give Hope Trust and I thank you for it.

    Very warm regards,

    Franchessca K. Mumba
    Headteacher
