Education for Kunkhongo Children in Malawi
“As I write this, I am in tears when I see over 200 children in one classroom with only a black board. That is not right,” says Rosemary describing the poor educational situation of children in Kunhongo community during her recent (November 2015) visit in Malawi.“We have shared the chalks and many pens, but it takes much more than that to address the school needs in the community,” she says. In fact, Rosemary plans to speak to Emmaville School in England to explore the possibility of creating links that may contribute towards the betterment of education for Kunkhongo children.
During the visit, teachers in Kunkhongo community are provided with mobile phones. Clothing including underwear for men, women, children and orphans has been given out; some of the clothing was donated by Emmaville School and parents whose children go to the school. Donation of football boots and a football and netball to the school brought a lot of joy to the children in Kunkhongo school.
“We left money for maize for January and February for the schoolchildren and the beekeepers as maize in short supply,” tells Rosemary.
Preparations to construct Nursery School in the community are now finalized. When completed, this is expected to make a huge difference for out-of-school children in Kunkhongo Community.
Give Hope Trust is thankful to all those who contributed financially and in-kind to the progress of projects in Malawi.
