Give Hope Zambia reports a good academic year
Team in Zambia reports on the successes of this past academic year.
SPORTS
We have had sporting activities throughout the year in the disciplines of soccer, netball and athletics. Our first outing was to Limapela Cedric’s School then later in term two to Roma Community school. We had our own sports fests on Youth Day and Independence Day.
Our only setback is lack of sports uniforms both for soccer and netball.
FEEDING
We could not have regular feeding as we would like but have had soy supplementation for the babies in Pre-school in the first term, fresh maize and sweet-potatoes. During sporting meets we have had meals as a school and also during some public holidays with the latest being the Independence Day which we celebrated on the eve being 23rd October 2015.
CAREER TALKS
The local Police officer came through to educate our older children on crime prevention, types of crime and the consequences. Early marriages, smoking and alcohol abuse was also addressed. He also encouraged them to remain in school, to think beyond where they are and to aim high.
HEALTH MATTERS
During the second term holiday we had medical personnel from the Commando Clinic come for a week of circumcision at the school and most of our boys got circumcised, with their parents consent. Earlier in the year we de-wormed all the children and had quite a number screened for malaria.
VISITORS/VOLUNTEERS
We have a received a host of visitors this year from within the country and from outside. It has been encouraging as each visitor lit up Luyando in their own special way. Some have even promised to visit again as God wills. The latest visit was from Ann Bissett who brought us some school supplies, and Rob Bellingham who helped repaint our classrooms and put up notice boards in all the classrooms.
