Honey Progress in Malawi
Give Hope Trust’s honey project continues to progress in Malawi to help communities make their own income.
“We have plenty of customers now,” reports Rosemary, the Project Founder and Coordinator, during her visit to the project in November 2015. “I went to the clinic to get my blood checks done and was welcomed as ‘The Honey Lady’. One 5 star hotel, within cycling distance from Kunkhongo, has agreed to buy next year’s honey,” she explains.
Beekeepers are provided with goats during the visit. Alex, one of the beneficiaries, said, ‘Oh, it is so good. I can have milk in my tea now, every morning’. “I was so touched to hear this. We take for granted our fridges at home and their contents,” reflects Rosemary.
Eight beekeepers agreed to buy 2 trees such as guava, lemon, and orange and then plant one near their homes and give one away to share.
A house house is under construction to serve as storage and processing facility for the honey. The construction is expected to be completed soon.
