More Hives, More Honey, More Income
The first beehive was installed on Christmas Day 2013. The number of hives and farmers benefiting in Kunkhongo, a small village in Malawi where Give Hope is working, has been growing since. Now there are 86 hives owned and taken care of by eight farmers in the village. The most recent harvest season was in June 2018; this season alone, the farmers harvested 250 litres of honey giving each farmer an average income of USD 203, an amount which makes a world of difference in Malawi, where the per capita income is estimated at $486. They sell the honey at farmers markets and to the local villagers at a reduced price.
